Everything you need to know about short-term cover.
Most drivers aged 21–75 holding a full UK or EU licence for at least 12 months are eligible. The vehicle must be UK-registered, have no more than 8 seats, be worth under £65,000, and not be modified (other than manufacturer-fitted options). Provisional licence holders may be considered for certain cover types. Full criteria are confirmed during the quote process.
Yes. Temporary cover is ideal for borrowed vehicles. The policy is taken out in your name, completely separate from the owner's insurance — so if you need to claim, the owner's no-claims bonus is unaffected. You should always have the owner's permission to drive the vehicle.
Cover can start as soon as your quote is accepted, or at any future date and time you choose. Your certificate of motor insurance and policy documents are emailed to you instantly once everything is confirmed.

Anywhere from 1 hour up to 7 days. Common durations include 1–12 hours, 1–3 days and a full week. If you need cover beyond 7 days, you can simply arrange a new policy when the first expires.
In most cases, yes. Contact us before your current cover expires and we can arrange an extension or a new policy to follow on. Once a policy has expired, a new policy will need to be set up and cover cannot be backdated.
No. Temporary cover is a standalone policy in the driver's name. Any claim made under it does not affect the vehicle owner's own insurance or no-claims bonus.
Policies include the minimum level of cover required to drive in EU member states as standard. Extended European cover may be available on request — contact us before travelling. Your policy documents will confirm exactly what territorial cover applies.
Just three things: your driving licence details (type and how long you've held it), the vehicle's registration number, and how long you need cover for. The whole process takes around two minutes.
Contact us as soon as possible after any incident — the claims contact details are in your policy documents. Have your policy reference (shown on your certificate) ready. We'll guide you through the process step by step.
Yes — the DVLA accepts temporary motor insurance as valid cover for taxing a vehicle, provided the policy is active at the time. Your certificate of motor insurance is your proof of cover.
All documents — including your certificate of motor insurance and policy wording — are emailed to the address you provide during the quote, usually within moments of cover being confirmed. Check your spam/junk folder if they don't arrive, and contact us if you need them re-sent.
